SOIL & "PIMP" SESSIONS is a very unique explosive jazz band known as the band of "Death Jazz". They consist of six members; Shacho or President (agitator), Tabu zombie (trumpet), Motoharu (sax), Josei (piano), Akita Goldman (bass) and Midorin (drums).

Biography

2001

They originally met at a club event in Tokyo in 2001.

2003

In 2003 with no commercial recordings available, yet, they were invited, with their reputation alone, to perform at one of the Japan's biggest summer music festivals, Fuji Rock Festival. This live was such a success that their performance became a big topic in that festival.

2004

The group signed up with Victor Entertainment in 2004. Their 1st mini-album 'Pimpin' came out in June, credited as one of the most influential releases of the year. Immediately this CD attracted listeners of any kind of music oriented-- jazz, club music, or rock....... No boundaries. They performed at the major summer festivals in Japan this year and gained their recognition as the powerful "Live Band". One time, at the Asagiri Jam Festival, Los Lobos caught their act. Being so impressed, Los Lobos invited each member of SOIL & "PIMP" SESSIONS to the stage to join their jam session. This session became a big highlight of the festival.
In December, they released their 1st single 'Suffocation'. This single was soon listed as the rotation tune on the major FM radio stations, unusually for the instrumental band. Also they were appointed as the sales promotion character for the month of Tower Records Japan.

2005

In February, they released their 1st full album 'Pimp Master' followed by the successful first one man tour at eight locations in Japan.
In April, Gilles Peterson, who is one of the most powerful and influential DJs and record-label owner of "talking loud" as well, broadcasted their tunes for four weeks in his BBC radio program 'World Wide'. In addition, Peterson offered them a guest for his radio program and a show in UK, which turned out to attract attentions of jazz net works in the world.
In July, their 2nd mini-album 'Summer Goddess' was released.
In summer, they performed at major summer festivals in Japan including Fuji Rock Festival and Rising Sun Rock Festival. They also had gigs in Europe at the event of Gilles Peterson's @ Cargo, London and Event of Jazzanova @ Cafe Moskau, Berlin.
In October, live at Osaka and Tokyo were great success with tickets being solo out!
In December 2005, astonishingly, they won "Jon Peel Play More Jazz Award" in "worldwide AWARDS 2005", which British BBC RADIO1 hosts every year. They were also nominated for "Track of the year" and "Session of the year"(Both were at third place.)
Invited by Transmusicales in France, they had live performance as well as in Netherlands, Belgium, and England.

2006

In February, their 2nd single, 'Crush!' was released.
In March, their 2nd Full-album 'Pimp Of The Year' was released.
In April, tours in Japan and gigs in Europe again.
In May and June, they constantly had Lives throughout Japan, and, especially, the one at the Bay Hall in Yokohama was so prosperous!
In summer of 2006, they perform at the several Jazz Festivals in Europe including "Montreux Jazz Festival" as well as summer rock & jazz festivals in Japan.
