SOIL & "PIMP" SESSIONS is a very unique explosive jazz band known as the band of "Death Jazz". They consist of six members; Shacho &html(<em>or President</em>)&nbsp;(agitator), Tabu zombie (trumpet), Motoharu (sax), Josei (piano), Akita Goldman (bass) and Midorin (drums).
*Biography
**2001
They originally met at a club event in Tokyo in 2001.

**2003
In 2003 with no commercial recordings available, yet, they were invited, with their reputation alone, to perform at one of the Japan's biggest summer music festivals, Fuji Rock Festival. This live was such a success that their performance became a big topic in that festival.

**2004
The group signed up with Victor Entertainment in 2004. Their 1st mini-album 'Pimpin' came out in June, credited as one of the most influential releases of the year. Immediately this CD attracted listeners of any kind of music oriented-- jazz, club music, or rock....... No boundaries. They performed at the major summer festivals in Japan this year and gained their recognition as the powerful "Live Band". One time, at the Asagiri Jam Festival, Los Lobos caught their act. Being so impressed, Los Lobos invited each member of SOIL & "PIMP" SESSIONS to the stage to join their jam session. This session became a big highlight of the festival.
In December, they released their 1st single 'Suffocation'. This single was soon listed as the rotation tune on the major FM radio stations, unusually for the instrumental band. Also they were appointed as the sales promotion character for the month of Tower Records Japan.

**2005
In February, they released their 1st full album 'Pimp Master' followed by the successful first one man tour at eight locations in Japan.
In April, Gilles Peterson, who is one of the most powerful and influential DJs and record-label owner of "talking loud" as well, broadcasted their tunes for four weeks in his BBC radio program 'World Wide'. In addition, Peterson offered them a guest for his radio program and a show in UK, which turned out to attract attentions of jazz net works in the world.
In July, their 2nd mini-album 'Summer Goddess' was released.
In summer, they performed at major summer festivals in Japan including Fuji Rock Festival and Rising Sun Rock Festival. They also had gigs in Europe at the event of Gilles Peterson's @ Cargo, London and Event of Jazzanova @ Cafe Moskau, Berlin.
In October, live at Osaka and Tokyo were great success with tickets being solo out!
In December 2005, astonishingly, they won "Jon Peel Play More Jazz Award" in "worldwide AWARDS 2005", which British BBC RADIO1 hosts every year. They were also nominated for "Track of the year" and "Session of the year"(Both were at third place.)
Invited by Transmusicales in France, they had live performance as well as in Netherlands, Belgium, and England.

**2006
In February, their 2nd single, 'Crush!' was released.
In March, their 2nd Full-album 'Pimp Of The Year' was released.
In April, tours in Japan and gigs in Europe again.
In May and June, they constantly had Lives throughout Japan, and, especially, the one at the Bay Hall in Yokohama was so prosperous!
In summer of 2006, they perform at the several Jazz Festivals in Europe including "Montreux Jazz Festival" as well as summer rock & jazz festivals in Japan.

He mainly plays the Alto Sax, and occasionally plays the Soprano Sax, too. He and his Alto sax are very good and long friends He has been using the same Alto sax since he got it when he was a high school student! He still loves the same old sax and he plays it powerfully with his characteristic hard blow.

First impressions you might have from his play could be "glamorous".

If you see him on stage, you may notice his original & gorgeous sax straps, too, which are made with gold chains and black leather. We could say that those gold straps and his gold sax symbolize his gold sounds!

One more thing you wouldn't forget once you see their live would be his passionate performance on stage and even at the floor. He often comes out off the stage and plays on the floor surrounded by the audience! His strong solos like a bull are always passionate and very impressive.

His motto is "Because it's fun." Yes. Forget about bad things and have fun at their live.

SOIL&"PIMP"SESSIONS is the punky Death Jazz Band. Their sound is known as very loud and explosive as you may hear. But they choose to use the wood base for their sound and the bassist, Akita Goldman holds up their sound with his unique solid bass sound.

His bass does not only merge into the tunes but also stands out with his aggressive solos by, sometimes, moving his big wood bass into the center stage. If you pay enough attentions to him at the back stage, you can see him mirthfully smiling to the each member and a little dancing to other members'solos.

He is also a member of the piano trio organized with other two members of SOIL&"PIMP"SESSIONS, Josei(pf), and Midorin(ds) named "J.A.M". They, from time to time, play some tunes in the middle of SOIL&"PIMP"SESSION live for some change just like intermission. But their play is so exciting that it gives even more enthusiasms to the audience!

Place of Birth : Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan
Object of interest : Fortunetelling, space....

He is a band leader and trumpeter. Trumpets he has look so cool!

He somehow prefers the heavier trumpets than standard; one of the heaviest weighs 9 pounds! With such trumpets, he sounds very strong and performs very hard, though he has such a slender body. His awesome solos make you feel like dragon's rising or arrows being shot towards the audience.

His attractive play is not only this hard blow, but also a glamorous and with a good atmosphere whisper. You may fell he is softly talking to you. You would hear it in their ballade songs (e.g. MO' BETTER BLUES, or HAHEN...).

By the way, don't forget to check out his unique, colorful but stylish fashion as well!

Big smile and powerful drumming! That is Midorin.

You would love his loud but tight rhythm and beat as well as his performances such as a shout at the end of the song of "Suffocation", which you would never comprehend what he says. He walks and claps around his drums and he even stands up and gets on his bass drum to shout or sing. But he, of course, can softly whisper you with the brushes in their ballad tunes.

He is also a member of the piano trio organized with other two members of SOIL&"PIMP"SESSIONS, Josei(pf), and Akita Goldman(b) named "J.A.M". Josei, having the experience of the guitarist, is now a very passionate pianist. His name Josei consists of two Chinese characters and the later letter, "sei" is the color of Blue. He looks like the person whose character is cool just like his name blue.

You, however, may think that his personality's changed, once he starts touching the piano keys. He softly plays the lyrical phrases. He improvises the tunes to the energetic interpretation. He even bangs on the piano keys as he gets excited. He scats. And he almost stands up and keeps playing in a half-crouching position. His piano is simply splendent.

In SOIL&"PIMP"SESSIONS' "Scoop Out" on stage, he sometimes comes to the center stage with his white shoulder keyboard and plays the solo. Isn't it cool or what?

He also organizes the piano trio with other two members of SOIL&"PIMP"SESSIONS, Akita Goldman(b), and Midorin(ds) named "J.A.M". They, from time to time, play some tunes in the middle of SOIL&"PIMP"SESSION live for some change just like intermission. But their play is so exciting that it gives even more enthusiasms to the audience!

Shacho is credited as the "agitator" in SOIL&"PIMP"SESSIONS. His name, "Shacho" means "president" in Japanese, although the band leader is not Shacho but Tabu Zombie(Trumpet).

He always wears a very nice & stylish suits, hat, sunglasses, and a big cross necklace. This style is his character.

His role as this agitator is very unique and you may never seen the personnel like him in this type of music.

Just by his words, his motion like dancing or conducting, shouts through the loudspeaker or rhythm he makes with shakers, maracas or percussions, he stirs up the audience and ties up their sounds & groove with the heat of the audience. It arouse enthusiasm in the audience.

In the old days, he was performing using the sampler machines at the stage side of SOIL&"PIMP"SESSIONS. Back then, those machines were easily broken in the middle of performance, so he changed his play style to the one you see now.

Seeing is believing. It is FUN to be agitated by him! You should come to their live to experience it.
